Students Offering Support (SOS) is the student-led charitable association that supports and develops University SOS chapters. Within each SOS chapter, student volunteers work together to raise marks which raises money to ultimately raise roofs for children in Latin America, helping them acquire access to a quality education (See The SOS Model for more information). Students Offering Support and the Exam-AID initiative was founded by Greg Overholt while he was an undergraduate student at Wilfrid Laurier University in 2004. So far, since 2004, SOS has tutored over 5,000 different students and raised over $240,000 for various sustainable development projects over the last four years in countries such as Kenya, Belize, Jamaica, Honduras, Peru, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. (See Our History for more information). Currently, for the 2009-2010 school year, there are 15 SOS chapters working together to raise $200,000 for several educational development projects that SOS student volunteers will be building at the end of the year on volunteer outreach trips
As a growing organization looking to engage more student leaders across the country as well as national sponsors, we are looking for champions in the media to help us communicate the issues of child poverty and the opportunities that SOS are providing children in marginalized communities. If you are interested in writing a story, or interested in conducting an interview or having Greg speak at your event, click here. to get in touch with SOS's media representative. |
